I'm looking at buying a Garmin Oregon GPS.
I've settled on a choice of two models, the Oregon 600 or Oregon 600t. As I understand it, the only real difference is that the "t" has European Topo maps pre-loaded. I can get a discount of 20% on the 600 but not the 600t
I have two questions if people can help me.
1. Are the pre-loaded Topo maps any good or will I need to use a proper hand held map as well?
2. Can I add the Euro topo maps to a 600 at a later stage?

Thanks in anticipation

They're not that good. Consider openmtbmap... coverage is not universal or perfect, but it is often very good. More importantly, it is free.

A paper map is often a good idea anyway. Electronics can fail, and scrolling around on a tiny screen gets tedious fast.

Yes.
