thought i would share a little diy experiment.
I shoved a handle (was an old power tool handle) on the end of a length threaded bar and experimented with it versus 'well known brand' snow saws for cutting ava blocks.
On all but hard ice was equivalent...the length i cut was a little longer than my folded probe which longer than conventional (advantage)
advantage is it fits in the probe bag, is cheap (very!)and you can use it as a stake to secure your sack on a steep slope.

I've always used a machette. Light and multi purpose. Very rarely can you find snow too hard to cut with that.

But if you insist on a saw, an old wood saw will suffice too. If you feel the teeth aren't big enough or agressive enough a quick hour with a decent file or grinder will turn it into something more stylish.
