IMPORTING Avi Tanscever from US to FRANCE

Hello All,

I'm looking at importing some Avalanche Safety Gear from the US into France (it's less than half price) but I'm worried about import TAX and VAT.

The total cost of the equipment is $300 plus $30 postage.

I've looked online at an import duty and tax calculator:
Transcever salex tax - 23,7%
Backpack sales tax - 22%

Can anyone give me some advice or their own experiences with hidden costs to help me make a decision?

No personal experience.

Just to note that if your kit has W-Link it will need to be the European standard (region A?). Apologies for possible irrelevance and/or obviousness.
