Any recent recommendations out there as I'm a bit out of touch? Cheap as possible but wide fit is a must (eg Mantas are certainly too narrow a fit)

Someone must know something useful?

Scarpa SL's are worth a try. I find the BD last a wider fit compared to the Mantas FT last.

Not cheap though.

Try these

Shop blurb underneath says that the 'wide' really is wide. Could fit the bill for you.
Salewa have a whole range of good looking boots from hiking to B3.

I'm tempted myself.

Got a pair in November and really nice boots. I had to buy an odd pair and have them widened for my specially awkward feet, but have been using them with BD Sabretooth Crampons (technically C2, but fairly flexible) and they've worked really well. I'd say slightly stiffer than your average B1 boot, but comfier to walk in than most B2's.

I've walked for hours in them with no hassle and been front pointing with good results.

Thanks everyone. Its for a colleague not myself and as they are starting out, reasinably cheap is important.

Berghaus Kibo are wide and comfy - i really like them. how cheap you can get em i dunno i got a pair 2nd hand. I was quite surprised how much i like them being a Scarpa person for so long.
