Just wondering how other people usually go about washing a rope.
Does washing up liquid do them any harm?
Can you put them in a washing machine?
Probably a stupid question, but thought i would ask anyway before i do something silly and damage a perfectly good, but rather dirty rope!
Cheers, joe

I used one of these in arm water with a mild detergent.

It's amazing how much dirt is squeezed out even after a couple of passes.

Here is a pic of the flyer that was attached to a new Beal Cobra II rope I bought a few weeks ago.
Hopefully you can read it.

Wash some towels on a boil wash with NO detergent, to remove deposits from the machine.

Wash the rope in a pillow case (tied closed well unlike what I did) about 30 degrees.

Leave to dry (out of sunlight).

Bingo Jingo, clean rope.

Unless you've been doing something weird with your washing machine, there's really no need to do this. A teeny tiny amount of normal detergent will do no harm whatsoever.

That said, if you always use the machine on a cool wash I've read that it's good for the machine itself to boil it up once in a while.
