Hi

I'm after some advice on buying a new headtorch after in lost my last one. I used to have a petzl tikka XP 2 (not the one thatchenges, the older one) and I loved it. I'm wondering if o should go for the same again or get something different so I'm looking for recommendations.
I will be using it for taking hill walking (summer and winter) in case its dark as we walk off and scout camps as well.
I really liked how bright the petzl was for its size and weight

I also had the core battery pack for it which I really liked though it isn't a deal breaker

So does anyone have any recommendations for a replacement?

Thanks

David

I had an LED Lenser H7R for a while (3 years or so), until the strap got a bit loose and the tilt mechanism got a bit wobbly. Following another headtorch thread here, I sent it back to the UK distributors who very promptly sent me a replacement, with the updated and better version:

It's excellent, and I'd thoroughly recommend it and their distributors.

Using it for walk offs and camping, save some serious money and get one of Alpkits two, which ever suits. Used for the same and for bouts of night climbing and more than a match for many expensive models around.

I have got an Alpkit Manta and it is great, a bit heavier than my old petzl but the focusing main LED makes up for that. Plus the price- £15 (delivered plus batteries) you cant say fairer than that!
Have a look at a UKC review a few months ago:

Hope it helps.

Have a look at the Black Diamond torches.
I find the button far less fiddly than Petzl's.

the Ion is silly bright but the Spot is a decent all rounder.
