I have a 4 year old Beal Edlinger 70m rope which has been used quite a bit and is rather dirty. The sheath is especially fluffy near the ends, but still allright in the middle so I was thinking of giving it a second life as a 50m alpine rope. This would mean that I need to wash and reproof the rope. Does anyone here have experience with this kind of thing? How do I do it and is it worth the hassle?

In reply to timmeehhhh: Dead easy, you can use Nikwax Techwash and Nikwax Ropeproof, just follow the instructions - https://www.nikwax.com/en-gb/products/productdetail.php?productid=22

I haven't reproof ropes but I've regularly washed ropes in the washing machine (chained up inside a pillow case) using Nikwax Techwash with good results.

In reply to timmeehhhh: Have used the nikwax rope proof stuff a couple of times. Following the instructions is easy and the results are ok but not as good ad original dry treatment.

Overall, I'd say it was worth it.
