Am doing an average of 25 miles a night on the bike ,but am starting to get a bit of pain in my right (ACL damaged right knee.

Tonight I raised the seatpost about 12mm ,as an experiment.

Still got the requisite slight bend in the extended leg ,and I don't feel like I'm stretching.

Is this potentially going to help my knee?

Already feels like a more natural transfer of power .Or am Imagining things?

I would have though lowering would have been kinder? Have you played with the cleats, how much float do you have?

Unless it was previously too low..?

OP:Go see a specialist if it doesn't clear up.

I have found that my knees are very sensitive to the position of the saddle, right down to ~5mm in either direction. Too high is quite obvious because you can feel yourself stretching, but too low has given me very bad knee pain in the past and I am now very particular about the height.

It's said that pain in front of the knee generally indicates a saddle too low and behind the knee, too high.

Have you tried sitting on the bike with the crank at the bottom and your leg hanging loosely? Your heel should just contact the pedal. Don't straighten your leg.

If the pain continues go and see a physio who specialises in bike setup. If you're in Lancashire I recommend Nick Dinsdale in Clitheroe, he's very fussy.

My pain is in the front of the knee.

Have read the same as what you say .

I shall try the heel thing .right now.

Cheers.

Instead of 12mm , I shall try the seat 5mm higher for starters,as recommended on various sites.
