Had this bike pinched A while ago so there may be an element of daja-vu about the post.

The stand out ID feature is that it now sports some nice garish lime green lizard skin bar tape as opposed to what is on the picture / standard issue.

The bike is the Merida Cyclocross 4 - 2014 model.

Frame number: WC806143J

Any info leading to the recovery of this bike will receive a cash reward of £100 - not much but it is all I can afford ATM.

Thanks in advance if anyone comes up trumps.

IT was taken from Ipswich - the local Police suggested it would probably be out of the county, so I posted a bit far and wide.

The Police also admitted they do not check frame numbers from recovered bikes on the bike register website, which I thought was a bit lame as it is such a quick check to do.

Leave a stolen post on bikeradar. Single track world. Pinkbikes. http://stolen-bikes.co.uk
Set eBay search for Merida bikes and save it as a search. Do the same with http://www.findthatbike.co.uk
Can record details on immobilise.com too.

Good luck getting it back.

Had an update from the local police, they confirmed that would not check online resources such the bike register and have no national database for stolen bikes themselves to check against.

Seem a bit crappy - the online frame number check would take seconds for a recovered bike.

So if the hypothetical situation arose where a person purchases a stolen/recovered bike from the police and the original owner sees it can that owner still lay claim to it / recover it? Referring to the above could it be argued that the police have did not reasonable steps (an online check against a UK wide database being a reasonable expectation of the boys in blue)...

If the police can't / won't do it would they allow volunteers from local cycle clubs to do it for them or indeed is there such a scheme already on the go anywhere?

Have a look for John Moss who is proposing such things ( the guy behing findmybike and stolen bikes )It seems getting a bike friendly police force is a matter of chance.
