Slightly copied and pasted from another post...

Hi, I'm in the Peak with a few mates this weekend (Teaching nav) and am looking for a suitable abseil venue. Given that it's a B/H weekend I didn't want to go to the usual honey pots as I wouldn't want to prevent people climbing as we abseil for say half an hour on any given wall, we'll be looking for somewhere at roughly tea time.

I've been to HQ a number of times to climb - is it also suitable as an abseil venue? or is it too busy, or just not feasible?

we're staying near Eyam so maybe a teatime visit to HQ would work. iirc there are many routes, and the weather is looking damp so it wouldn't be too busy, worth a look at least, what do you think?

Failing that... Froggatt? I could even get them climbing up Green Gut etc.

Thanks, TtB

I've used the very back wall of Horseshoe a few times. The best line, I think, is just to the left of Excavator - it's almost always empty, comparable pretty solid (though helmets still extremely advisable), and has trivial walking access as you can just go round the side above the Main Wall and Upper Tier to get there.

You will ideally need two static ropes, though - there are two good trees to rig from but they're a bloody long way back so you'll use one 50m rope just for the anchor, and as it's a long abseil they'll be far happier going down on a second static than a dynamic.

Oh, and be prepared for the system to shift a considerable way towards the edge when they weight it - I once set this up for some children with my personal tie-in near the edge, let a (rather heavy) dad have a go at the end, and nearly got pulled over the edge myself!

Excellent, and wise words to boot... VMT for taking the time to post.

Helmets and statics a go-go
