http://www.ukclimbing.com/logbook/crag.php?id=18284 You dont say if you are going in a van or which way you intend to go but this little crag is on the road through the French Jura, the way I drive as my Sister in Law lives in Geneva and is a loveley spot with good parking and even a loo.
so driving from west wales, haven't deicded on a route, but a 1 day/ afternoon to stop and then sleep the night to break it up. going in my van so can sleep anywhere.
thanks for the replies so far!
depends what you want to do & how much extra driving you are prepared to do. Fontainebleau would probably be a detour, a days climbing in Burgandy much less. Other options if you want to climb might be the Vosges or (as suggested) the Jura although I'd have that was a little too far south
We stopped for a day in the Vosges on our way to the Dolomites a couple of years back, Martinswand is a great bolted granite crag there. Crag notes and UKC article on the links below:
If you stop at Font be careful, there are a lot of thieves about and a foreign car full of goodies is like a pot of jam for wasps. As said above Burgundy provides some real climbing, not just bouldering like Fontainebleau, although it is often very polished, the Saussois in particular - lovely place to have picnic though, between the river and the rocks.
We stopped at a crag just NE of Dijion on our way back in April. Some reasonable routes, beautiful location and a great village complete with provincial stell artois style bar and restaurant serving awesome food.
