Good afternoon all...

Looking at getting a bike through the Cycle to Work scheme.
Don't want to spend too much as already have 3 bikes (2 Road and 1 Hardtail)

I don't do much downhill mountain biking and when I do it's just red trails. My current Viper hardtail doesn't have disc brakes (which is probably why I don't do much)!!!
I live in Scotland and my hardtail got trashed on my daily commute during the winter due to the grit and salt.

So looking at one of these bikes...

What is the UKC opinion?

Cheers

Does it have to be from Halfords?

Cycle scheme do it from almost any shop.

IF yes Boardman 29er. At most it will be £50 out your pay packet a month.
And well worth it for the significantly better bike over the 2 you listed.

If it's from Halfords, take a look at the Voodoo range too- bloody good bikes for the price!

Thanks Tom

But I can't afford £50 a month...

I'm guessing £35 a month is out then That's the cheapest Boardman one.

Afraid below that price point i'd be stabbing in the dark. Largely because whenever I've ridden something like that I've decided its not worth the saving.

I had a Kraken for a while - it was a good bike. The hydraulic brakes were effective, the suspension worked and it wasn't too heavy. With Halfords, keep an eye on their online offers - I ended up saving over $100 on the day, which I got to spend on more accessories.

I switched to a road bike shortly afterwards though, but managed to sell the Kraken at a profit (taking the tax-free bit into account).

I bought the gf the Vulcan and it's a good value entry level mountain bike but it is quite heavy (certainly in comparison to by Marin HT) but it doesn't seem to bother her too much. Having said that, the Kraken is only 1kg lighter but it has slightly better forks. I wouldn't commute on either though.
