Flying into Bodo in just over a week and would like information as to where stove fuel (self sealing Jetboil type cartridges) can conveniently (near airport) be bought, either there or en route to Stetind and also if anyone has any suggestions re wild camping (or campsites) at the foot of Stetind (Norway's National Mountain). Thank-you in advance.

Not sure about the gas. There is a little bivi-shelter and public (pit) toilets in the car park where the path up Stetind starts,

In reply to gilliesp: you can get gas in the sports shop in the shopping centre in Narvik

In reply to gilliesp:

You can by gas in many sports shops in Bodø. Many shops close at 4 or 5, earlier on a saturday (1 - 2), and rarely if ever open on sunday (same for food stores). You can also get gas on some general stores / camping grounds while your drive, but don't cant on it. best bet in Bodø!

Camping: Many people just camp by the parking place by the walk in. As stated before, there is a toilet and some benches. Gets quite social at times.

We actually walked up in the evening to the large water to find a camping place, eventually finding a good flat area near where the scrambling starts on the mountain proper. Very idyllic. Very quite with outstanding views. Unfortunately there was no water here so we had to go back to the big water to collect.

A couple of us would like to do the walk up on the Monday evening we arrive (weather permitting of course!) so your experience was worth reading about. Did you actually camp at the water - space for two big/four small tents needed - or use bivi bags?

I did an online Bodo search and several places came up as likely gas suppliers but one near airport would be expedient for us. We're going on to Lofotons so a bulk buy of gas in Bodo seems sensible.

Cheers for the heads-up.

Gas can be bought from the sport-shops in Svolvaer (and other places as well), with probably the same price as from Bodo. So buying bulk might not be needed...

That's good to know. Will save us problem of working out 'how much?' And save us some cash in long term perhaps. Thanks.
