I have a couple of free weeks between now and the end of september and want to get out to the Alps for the first time. My usual climbing and trekking mates can't take the time off but I'm happy to travel alone and hopefully meet people out there or climbing, walking and introduction to Alpine skills. Any recommendations for places to go/stay, skills courses, etc? Anyone else doing similar?
Any info on any areas much appreciated.

I'd always recommend the Engadine, "a place where Italy meets Finland" in the words of Nietzsche. Big ice peaks, not that many people, gorgeous lakes and easy small mountains to walk up with matchless views.

Saas - uplift, free transport, easy 4000ers. Do a forum search for 'saas' for details
