Has anyone got any experience of using one of these (or similar) for climbing / bouldering at night time?

Obviously it's only going to light up a short route or a boulder problem, but could be better than a headtorch?

I have used this: http://www.toolstation.com/shop/p45540?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=googl...

Looks pretty similar. It's really good, you get 3+ hours out of it after 4 hours charge. You need a head torch as well though or the shadows get really annoying.

Ah yeah, I guess shadows could be a problem if it's only one light source. Could make for some interesting photography lighting I bet.

LED one looks decent, whats the 7hr low-light setting like?

Doing a wild walking/camping and night bouldering project soon so need something that can survive a bit of the british weather..

That lamp is available in Screwfix for about £7 cheaper if you are still after one.

The more lights, generally the better. Headtorches are useful, as has been said. More than one static light source is good too. An alternative to the large torches you are looking at is to get wide beam bike lights with external batteries, which are more portable and can be very powerful if you get the right ones.
