Hello.

With the Christmas season upon us family will be asking me what I want for Christmas....

As the grit season is also upon us and I am keen to head to climb some grit I am thinking of asking my brother and sister to get me guide books for GritStone areas to inspire me and to keep me psyched.

Is this a good idea?

Any recommendations?

BMC Books? RockFax Books?

Any other ideas?

On a different matter....

How do Five Ten Anasazi velcroes work on grit?

Bye

Rockfax Eastern Grit should keep you busy, probably more than enough for a lifetime of climbing. If you fall in love with a particular crag or area, then get the BMC guide as well.

Hi.

I had a weird/strange summer where I climbing fell out of my mind.

I have been physically actice and lost some weight.

I know Emma Twyford told me!

Hi.

I get the cold thing on the grit now....

It will provide good friction for the super sticky rubber on the rock boots....

What an awesome combo - good friction working along with super sticky rubber!

I would consider Over the Moors just for a good read and some interesting places that are not on the top of the popular(overpopular?) crags list.

If you are too cold, you could also go for inspiration from a different direction and get someone to get you the recording of Under Milkwood from the BBC with Richard Burton as narrator.I suggest it since it is topical with Dylan Thomas' centenary and also just because I love it.You could listen to it when it is raining,or when heading to the crag etc.

Another thing is to have your relations getting you some older books second hand.Such as those by FS Smythe(and then read The ascent of Rum Doodle).

Another slant on grit would be to look at the relevant sections of Classic Rock etc.

Hello.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I have checked them out....

The books by FS Smythe and The Ascent of Rum Doodle look very interesting!

One question though.....

Why books on Mountaineering and Alpine Climbing?

In reply to Mountain Spirit:

Books on Mountaineering and Alpine Climbing-they just happen to be books from a previous age when the aim was largely still to get to the high peaks and people who climbed on crags would aspire to the same, but often did not have the opportunity due to their position in life. The Rum Doodle book is just to contrast the mickey take with the serious. It was a request for ideas for Christmas presents and it was my idea of a lateral thinking approach, and who knows you may be drawn in by them.Presents are often good to receive when they are not at the centre of your focus and give a light-hearted approach to things.

Another thought, Peak Rock is absolutely fascinating, and should inspire you.
In reply to veteye:

Hello.

You speak a lot of sense.

Those books do look interesting.

In reply to Mark Kemball:

Hi Mark.

I have heard great things about this book....

I will definitely have it in mind.

Hello.

Is it worth asking for a book on Self Rescue?
