Hi all,

I'm after a personal locator beacon for use ski touring, mountaineering, kayaking etc. in remote places. I only want it for emergencies so a simple lightweight unit with no annual subscription service (so, not SPOT). I've looked at the ACR ResQ Link and the Fast Find, which seem good, waterproof too, but have manufacturer only battery replacement which doesn't sound ideal.

Does anyone have any experience with either unit or can suggest another alternative?

Cheers,

John
In reply to JohnV:

I have a Fastfind that is 4 years old and still passes the battery test. They have released a new one called the "Max G" which has a user replaceable battery but is twice the price of the old ones.....
The plus side, is that they are small and reasonably light and operate at low temps.

Goodness - lost the will to live on that one, and I didn't get a third of the way through it!
