Hi,

Has anyone climbed either of these mountains?

I am keen to give Hiun Chuli a go, but there seems to be a lot of talk about attempts being unsuccessful due to the dangers of rockfall and hanging seracs. Does anyone know if it has an unusually high failure rate compared to other peaks?

What grade does the normal route go at on Singu Chuli; what is the hardest pitch?

Does anyone have any links to trip reports (I couldn't find any on the net)?

Grateful for any info or personal experiences.

Thanks,

Alex

I think there have been so few ascents or attempts of Hiunchuli that a failure rate is meaningless.

Worth looking at http://publications.americanalpineclub.org/articles/13201212650/Singu-Chuli...

Singu Chuli has had a few ascents up those nice southern faces and ridges but it's also worth noting that it's 'backside' was being visited a few years back when people (Viesturs etc) were making attempts at the east ridge of Annapurna. I think at least one team climbed up SC as acclimatisation, probably via the descent mentioned in the link above, and I remember reading of climbers bivying up there. I'm sure CLIMB has recorded this, but with no index to them I can't be arsed digging it up.

Re Hiuinchuli- I did the first 'winter' + 'alpine style' ascent of it many many years ago. Theres a description of that route from Hinko Cave (E Face) and some other info on ascents in Bill O Connors (out of print) book 'Trekking Peaks of Nepal' that will now doubtless be totally out of date and pretty useless. From what I can gather its had few, (if any?) ascents from that side since, as its a mass of crumbling gullies. I do know someone who went to have a look at it two years ago and decided that there was way too much rockfall
There have been a few attempts on the N Face from the sanctuary but again Im not sure if anyone has reached the true summit from there- Damo any idea ?
Some old info on here

Hi,

North face of Hiunchuli was climbed in October 11th and 12th 1995 by Slovenians Tadej Golob, Dušan Polenik and Tomaž Jeras - TERRA NOSTRA (ED, 85° / 60° - 70°, rock VI+, A2, 1220 m) - http://www.aozeleznicar.org/prvenstvene/vodnicekao/vodnik/himalaja/hiunchul...

East face of Singuchuli was climbed in October 6th and 7th 1995 by Slovenians Bojan Počkar and Žiga Petrič - PERUNOVA SMER (ED, 90°/ 65°, rock VI+ / VI, 1450 m) - http://www.aozeleznicar.org/prvenstvene/vodnicekao/vodnik/himalaja/singuchu...

The links are unfortunately in Slovenian language but google translate might help

Best, Poli
