DH is looking for a pair of alpine skis for powder/off piste, lift-accessible stuff (think Taos... where on the first powder day this month we both sank like stones on our all-mountains). He's a big guy, tall and heavy, and I guess an advanced intermediate - anyway, better than me at moguls and the like! Any recommendations out there?

Most wide skis are good in powder. Unless it's a straight powder ski you're after the acid test is how they perform in other conditions. The questions you need to ask yourself are how often do you ski powder and do you want to have more than one pair of skis.

I imagine he's going to keep the skis he already has, so something powder specific might be best?
