Hello,

I'm interested in getting some climbing boots I can use for long alpine routes, waterfall ice and mountaineering. I've read a lot on different boots and stuff but want to know what people are using as a really good all round boot. I have looked at the scarpa Mont Blanc pro gtx but it all seems a bit of a mine field to me. If it is the case that I'm missing something then please give as much advice and knowledge as you like I would really appreciate it. Many thanks. Ben

It's not complicated, get a pair of rigid boots, rated as B3, that are comfortable. You could get away with B2 rated boots but for steep ice you will appreciate the benefits of B3.

Hi Ben

The scarpa boot you mention will be fine as long as they fit, http://www.ukclimbing.com/gear/news.php?id=6595

Suggest you have a short list of boots and go and try them on, preferable in the same shop. La sportIva nepal extremes are also popular https:// www.needlesports.com/Catalogue/Footwear/Mountain-Boots/Nepal-Extreme-SPO-NTE#.VP1XhJseLMI

Also take your crampons along to check they fit, if you have none its best to try a pair at the shop so you know what fits.

Theres no short cut to finding a good boot that you may have to wear for 15 hours apart from trying a few pairs on and seeing what fits.

Cheers Davey

Not being demeaning in any way, but certainly the best boot is the one that fits properly. Online reviews and opinions are good to assess a feature set, but that's going to be irrelevant if you haven't a boot that fits your foot.
