Bike rack for a carbon bike?

Hi,

I'm planning an overnight ride with a few friends on road bikes - travelling as light as possible, but still need to carry a few things beyond what can fit in pockets.

Options for luggage are either a small rucksack, which might get uncomfortable for a whole day, or fitting a rack to my bike, but it's a carbon frame with no rack mounts.

I'm reluctant to fit a rack with P-clips on carbon stays, even with aluminium drop-outs.

The other option I've head about is a rack that fits on the rear skewer and connects to the seat post, but I need a steer on who makes them and where to get one.

What have other people done? I expect the weight to be around 2-3 kg.

Thanks in advance.

Dry bag and strap it below your saddle, easy. No need to bother with racks, that is all so "cycle touring" and last century. We're all about the "bikepacking" these day dawg. See my pics here http://lightfromthenorth.blogspot.co.uk/2013/12/an-early-winter-bikepack.ht... for some ideas.

I had one of those seatpost racks but it broke: http://lightfromthenorth.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06/the-oaks-of-sweden-finland-... (scroll down a bit).

I use a courier type bag. Better than a rucksack.

Check out the Carradice SQR mount bags

I have a Nelson Longflap on my commuter which I have also used to tour with and without a light tent. It changes the balance of the bike so you need to get used to it, and I'd suggest using a cheap seatpost in case you over tighten it or anything.

I was planning on using a small dry bag on top of a rack, but hadn't considered strapping it direct to the saddle - doesn't it bash your thighs?

I dismissed the idea of a beam rack due to a carbon seat post. One solution might be to get an alloy post, as I could borrow a beam rack.

I've just bought one of these saddle bags for a two week tour through France.

Haven't used it yet but it gets good write ups on various websites, which hopefully justifies the price.

I managed to get a largish sleeping bag, bivvy bag, sleeping mat (tiny thermarest) and a change of clothes into it.
Will be buying the frame bag at some point for the other bits and pieces.

My friend did the transcontinental race last year on his cervelo R3 loaded with stuff (relatively speaking) have a look here for some bag ideas:

yes, was going to suggest the same. Would really like to buy one of those to go with my frame bag but they're are relatively pricey. I'm sure they are well made though, my framebag is certainly is.
