Thanks again to all who responded to my request for advice on Dolomite Via Feratta (April thread now locked).

We went out for a few days at the weekend and returned last night.

Stayed with Colletts in Cavara - what a helpful and friendly company! A little bit expensive, but well worth the price for the quality of accommodation and food for a short break

As previously recommended we first did Cirspitze above the Gardena Pass, which was a lovely introduction to Italian Via Feratta. The road to the pass was closed all day to traffic due to a 6000 strong cycle race, so we walked up from Cavara through the trees on the south side, returning along the contour path on the north side which made it a very long but satisfying day (about 9 miles).

The next day we did Brigata Tridentina. Again a thoroughly satisfying day on a fantastic route. Not difficult but long and tiring (730m of VF), but some great situations. I found the bridge at the end a bit disappointing after all the hype about it, and thought the steep section preceding it was more exciting, but again great views and the restaurant at the top was open and serving great apple strudles! Mucky descent on a badly eroded and loose steep path which was hard work.

The threat of thunderstorms on the final day drove us into the ancient walled town of Brunico where we visited an interesting combined German and Italian War Cemetery from the two world wars, in a lovely forest setting from which we did a circular forest walk.

Once again thanks to all UKCers who gave us such helpful advice.
