Does anyone have experience of any via ferrata near by to Annecy e.g. Montmin ? i.e. are they for general use or are they restricted in someway whereby you have to pay ?

Many Thanks
Tim

There's a free one at Thones, it was the first one I did. The only restriction was that to use the zipwire you had to use a pulley.

Thanks for the info. Did you have your own lanyards or did you find somewhere to rent them ?

Cheers

Not done a via ferrata before but climbed for a few years. Do you have to use the zip wire or can you avoid it or just nip across with lanyards.

There are a 3 or 4 within easy driving distance of Annecy, I did the Thones one last, and as I was on my own I was a little intimidated by it and its reputation, but it was ok and fun but really its in the town so not as pretty but as the others. The others had a totally different more mountainy feel and I enjoyed them more. If you buy the guide its the ones within about an hours drive of Annecy but I recall that you drive through beautiful scenery up what I assume are Tour de France stages, (loads of cyclists) and I would advise doing at least one of these before the Thones one. I bought my lanyards from the Decathlon closest to Annecy.
When I did the Thones one I do not recall a Zip Wire.
