Hi,

I want to try some limestone sport in the peak district but am a little apprihensive about leading at the moment. Are any destinations/ areas of the cliff / specific routes where it is easy to set up a top rope (technically a bottom rope) from the top of the cliff without having to lean over too far??

Thanks ever so much for any suggestions

Not sure what grade you are looking at but if its really easy stuff then the Disney routes and Star Trek wall are easy to reach the lower offs, also never had a problem on the left hand side of the Main wall. Toilet area can be a bit dodgy though.

You're not allowed to talk about top roping don't you know?!?!

In all seriousness there is an upper tier at horseshoe with some short 5s and 6s. You could throw a top rope down those. Why not use two ropes and bluff lead while on top rope for practice? You might get to a point where you are confident to lead.

If you don't want to lead a sport route exactly what aspect of sport climbing are you wanting to try ? if its just to climb on a top rope why restrict yourself to arguably the lowest quality lower grade routes in the Peak ?

because these routes are technically harder in a very safe setting?

You can top rope any route at any technical difficulty you want at loads of Peak venues. And safe ? peak limestone quarries ? especially trying to rig from above ?

Personally I'd get a clipstick, learn to use it and and work on your leading if you're wanting to go sport climbing. If you want to do some toproping go somewhere nice!

horseshoe is very very safe to rig from above - since there is a huge clean ledge above the main wall
Will also stop him polishing up grit mid grade classics
