Am I missing something or is there a lack of article on the Home page vis-s vis ,disabilities and mountaineering ? My climbing and mountaineering partner are two old farts. My partner is now disabled . But we both hobble into the mountains (European Alps) as often as we can.
For 2017 we plan on repeating a climbing, skiing and mountaineering trip to Svalbard.
Repeating activities undertaken by us in 1995. .We will be following the routes taken by Bill Tilman. However, we were both younger then and "Brin" was able bodied way bacjk then. So ther's still is life in the old dogs.

But there appears to be very little emphasis, in UK climbing ,on the older able bodied and older disabled : climber, mountaineer and ski mountaineering person.

Or am I not searching and reading enough on the site ? So it goes.

UKC seem to welcome submissions from users so why don't you write such an article yourself?

I love seeing old boys out having a bit of fun. But appreciate that it's merely having fun, and not news worthy.
All the best

UKC have had a couple of articles about the British Paraclimbing Team, I'm sure they would welcome submissions about other aspects of climbing and disability.

Somewhat distasteful "ageist" response! Why would it not be news worthy?

Hi Pete,

We do try to feature articles on disabled climbers, paraclimbers and older climbers as much as we can.

Here are some news reports and articles you might find of interest:

http://www.ukclimbing.com/articles/page.php?id=6924

We have an interview with a 70 year-old who has just climbed his first 7a outdoors coming up too, which should make for an interesting read. We often publish articles sent in by readers, so feel free to write something if you wish!

We'll do that. We are planning a: sailing, skiing, mountaineering trip to Svalbard and Jan Mayen for 2017. The post will probably more like a gossip about: avoiding polar bears,
loosing the rifle ammunition, falling into creviceses , forgetting the ski skins and the tent ice pegs (all of which we did when in Greenland 1999) (A bit like Andy Kilpatrick escapades). Rather than, "I ripped me tights falling off a E10 , 100 c Baffin Island Big Wall "(LOL). Aside, We got out of the crevices,Kept the tent in place with the skies .

Seriously, thanks for all the replies. What's that saying ? Is it, "there are bold climbers. And there are old Climbers. But there are no bold old climbers" ? We will endeavour to be the exceptions So it goes .

Plenty of physically and mentally disabled people post on here from time to time, but full-blown articles - that takes a special pair of 'nads. There is something about climbing encourages that to be toned down. Capability etc maybe?

David,
I apologise, but what is it that you are saying ? Please expand a little and I'll reply. Presumably you are asking a question by finishing with a question mark ?

In reply to petemcewen:

Hi, sorry it's taken a while - all I meant was the nature of climbing (self-suffiency, mutual reliability, capability to get out of trouble etc) can contrast with admitting to a disability. E.g. if I told you I've nearly ended it all by jumping off high places, you might not be so keen to share a rope.
