Just back from a mini break at Clecy.
Interesting place with some superb bolted climbing in places up to 2 pitches (height about 70m). Lovely rock with loads of routes across the grades, and with good friction overlooking the River Orme.
There is a 250m via ferrata over the bridge from the campsite which is easy but good fun. Only 4 euros if you bring your own VF gear and helmet.
Then from the top there is an exhilarating 400m zip wire back over the Orme finishing up near the viaduct (you pay extra for this, but well worth it for the experience)
Nice camp site (now closed for the winter from 1 Oct) right on the banks of the Orme. Loads for family and kids to do if not climbing, including pedalos and canoeing. Good walking area and for the adventurous a disused railway tunnel over a mile long - you need headtorches. (NB not certain about the legality of access, but although the ends are sealed off the gates are not padlocked)
For historians the Normandy Landing Beaches and Pegasus Bridge are within about three quarter hours drive.
Local farms sell cidre, calvados and cheese.
Ferries from Portsmouth to Le Havre or Caen (about 7 hours) or shorter crossings but longer drives via Newhaven - Dieppe or Dover - Calais.
