It's pretty damn OK (maybe even good) I'd say. Whilst it's not a 'world class' destination... depending how you look at it, it's pretty unique given it's a densely populated area and access is quick, easy and the views memorable. There is a lot of sport out there, but there is also trad (though many people will tell you otherwise, for whatever reason). Central Crag is an obvious location to go to, being just above Central itself. Rock quality is generally pretty good. October - April is a good season generally, not too greasy. There's multi-pitch on Lion Rock, good trad multipitch on Kowloon Peak and first ascents to be had if you like trundling around the jungle and digging dirt from cracks. I'd say as well that there is a good range of grades going as well, there's something for everyone...

Best sport climbing is probably on Tung Lung Island. Ferries run on weekends and public holidays, have a look at hongkongclimbing.com for more info. Can get busy though.

Good comments above. Just to add, there is also a lot of well developed bouldering. As said, it is very worthwhile and rewarding trying to get out while on a visit to HK, but probably not worth going just for the climbing. Like with most climbing venues, you get to see a different view of a location from most others passing through.
