As you will have seen in the news over the last month or so, Cumbria has been badly hit by storm after storm this Winter each bringing record levels of rainfall, which has led to devastating floods in many of the counties villages, towns and cities (Storm Desmond on the 5th December in particular). Bridges have been lost, roads and transport links destroyed, homes and businesses decimated, with a massive impact on local people, families and communities.

Communities in Appleby, Cockermouth, Carlisle, Keswick, Kendal and Glenridding have been some the worst effected but many other towns and villages have also badly hit by extensive flooding.

To show our support The Climbers Shop are very proud to be involved in the Grand Day Out in Cumbria fundraising event

It will be a county-wide fundraising day on January 16th 2016 (with a follow up later in 2016). There will be fell walks / sports / music / laughter / eating / drinking and all sorts of fun things to raise funds for the Cumbria Community Foundation Flood Appeal, Mountain Rescue and other voluntary rescue services who were so important during the floods.

The Climbers Shop, in conjunction with various outdoor brands, are offering some pretty amazing gear to be won, with raffle prizes* being donated by Marmot, Rab, Thermarest, Montane, DMM, Meindl, Scarpa , Troll, Julbo, Lifesystems and UKC/Rockfax.

You could also win one of five £100 Climber Shop Gift Vouchers or even a guided mountain day of your choice (led my mountaineering instructor Bryan Wakeley). There’s also a couple of guided fell walks on the day too, so you can get the most out of the Lakeland fells and contribute to recovery of Cumbria’s flood battered communities at the same time.

Check out some of the amazing prizes to be won above

*Raffle Tickets only available to buy on the day (January 16th) from The Climbers Shop, the LAMRT Rescue Base & Café Altitude in Ambleside. Tickets will be £5 each or £20 for a strip of 5
