Walk in the Lakes - Options

Hello all,

Im planning a Lakes walk for mid April and having done most of the 'classic' horseshoes Im looking at other options to link a few hills together for decent length walks which I havent done before.

Im liking the look of Mosedale to Kirk Fell>Great Gable>Green Gable>Base Brown and then back via Sty Head and the valley between GreatG and LM back to Wasdale. Looking at the 1;35kOS the link between GreenG and BB looks straight forward but the descent towards Styhead Gill from BB doesnt - it appears that you have to either retrace your steps back up GreenG and down Aaron Slacks or down Gillercomb and then the full circumference of BB. Both of these are undesirable.

Is there an easier way off BB, perhaps Strawberry Gill or nearby which give a more direct route to the valley floor and back to Sty Head Tarn that isnt seen on the OS map?

Also, are there any alternatives to link a few good hills which arent seen in guidebooks which wouldnt be seen as one of the classics.

Thanks

Richard

Just retrace your steps to the col between BB and Green Gable and then wander down the slope to the south heading for Sty Head Tarn. It will be fine.

Alternative: Yewbarrow - Red Pike - Scoat Fell (+Steeple if you like) - Pillar - Kirk Fell - Gt Gable and back to Wasdale. Can shorten if required by coming down Black Sail Pass or from Kirk Fell or Beckhead Tarn.

Well there is the circuit of Ullswater from Pooley Bridge, 40 miles over High Street, Kirkstone Pass, Helvellyn, Dodds. Langdale Horseshoe 18 miles, Northwest fells from Braithwaite 20 miles. True, though, hills in the Lakes come in tidy little packages, often difficult to make up long satisfying routes.
