Hey,
Looking to introduce a new climber to some easy sport routes in a non threatening situation.
I have got hold of the guidebook yet but I now this whole area has everything.

I was interested in Val Masino and likes the accommodation I saw there but it doesn't look like a beginner area.

We will have a car.

Can anyone with local experience give me some advice.

She will be looking at sports grades 4s and 5s and I'm after 6s.

Thanks

JJ

Val Masino is nowhere near Ticino...

How ever Ticino canton has quite a bit of mellow bolt-clipping on slabby gneiss. Sectors of Ponte Brolla should suit ya just fine, single and multibitch 4s, 5s and 6s with nice ledges in between. So easy to mix and match.

Also if you venture further north (but still in Ticino), perhaps you might be keen to romp up Via del Veterano (or what ever it was called). A 700m or so 4-5 clip up, albeit the crux might be even f6a (or f4, if you pull from the quickdraw).

Oh, and a pretty OK camping ground in Locarno (about 10 to 20 mins drive from Ponte Brolla).

Plus swimming and cliff jumping in Ponte Brolla "gorge".

And some nice small wineries on the way to climb Veterano...
