Asking for a friend actually who wants to head up to Chamonix for a long weekend of piste skiing around the 22nd. I've seen lots of conditions reports on here lately but nothing lately on the state of the pistes. Some of the lower resorts seem to be closing runs so it would be good to get unbiased advice from anyone who has been there recently or is there now, whether he should take the plunge.

I know we had a shocking start to the season but things got better later on but it was pretty localised, so unsure how well the base is holding out.

Alternatively anywhere else in good nick within and 1-1.5 hours from Geneva.

have a look at http://www.compagniedumontblanc.fr for closing dates, though the dates get extended in good conditions

possible Brevent-Flegere will be closed

Sorry, I should have said - I've of course checked out all the online resources but didn't feel the picture was good enough to advise my friend to risk a flight and car hire which is why I was asking for a bit of local knowledge. I realise we can't be 100% - just trying to piece together from different sources
