This is the fell top assessors quote from the I love the Lakes facebook page.
A frustrating day on Helvellyn today.Too many people dicing with death on the steep snow slopes at the top of Swirral Edge and Striding Edge - how will these people stop a slide without an ice axe, and let's be honest, a slide is very likely given that these people are not wearing crampons either? One family were stuck just below the top on Swirral Edge today, so I cut a line of steps for them to get to the plateau. They told me they were heading for Glenridding, and promptly walked off in the direction of Thirlmere. I reined them in, and pointed them down the Keppel Cove zigzags, only to find them letting their dog chase sheep on the way down. Not a great day on the fells all told.
