Lakes or peak for "stag" group

Hi,

After some help, we're a rather sedate stag party (no boozing it up in cities for this one) the groom has instead expressed an interest in renting a cottage and heading out on some walks during the day, and bringing a load of tvs and gaming systems for the evening (Groom is a big gamer).

Now I'm not so bad for knowing where to go for a bit of bouldering and trad but my knowledge of nice walks (and potentially places to take a mountain bike, though of less interest) is lacking.

We've narrowed it down to the peak or the lakes, which really isn't narrowing it down much at all because they're bloody huge. So I'm after any suggestions of locations I should look at, walks around those locations, and if anyone happens to know of bunk house style accommodation that we can book out (roughly 15 of us) that'd be really useful.

None of the rest of the guys climb, but rather selfishly if the location were near somewhere I could go bouldering then I'd be happy

Thanks in advance!

Hudscales is one I have stayed in a few times, it says sleeps 12, but I'm sure you could squeeze in 15 if you brought a few extra mattresses.

Some good bouldering on carrock fell, lots of good walking, and a good local pub.

Not in one of your chosen areas, but how about the youth hostel at Newton Stewart? Available for group bookings only, and some brilliant walks and mtb routes nearby in the Galloway hills.

I would try thorp farm bunk houses https://sites.google.com/site/thorpefarmbunkhouses/home

they do accept noisy celebrations but you sometimes need to book two a joining bunk houses which you might need to anyway for 15 of you

there is a brilliant walk / pub craw from thorp farm with some bouldering near by.

our pub crawl from thorp is.
1, Scotsmans pack
2, the fox house
3 Grouse inn
4, Chequers in
5, Miners Arms
6, THe Barrel inn
7, the plough inn
8, the little john

If you have a pint at each its surprising how sober you will be when you get home. all 8 pubs will take about 8 hours for something shorter ( 4- 6 hours) drop the miners arms and the barrel inn

the scotsmans pack to the fox will take you along burbage and you can arrange for the bit past the Chequers inn to take you along the top of froggatt and curbar, all good for a quick boulder / highball.

Bouldering nearby
3 good pubs within a few mins walk (2 are on the doorstep)

I was thinking of this; we had a club meet at the "Pondside" cottage a few years ago, other than it being a bit small (sleeps 12) it would be fine for the OP

Pretty much anywhere you go in the lakes has quality fells on the doorstep. I'm not hot on accommodation options so I'm not going to recommend that.

However the Honister via ferrata is quite popular with stag groups, maybe something to consider? And if you're in that area of the lakes you've got the western fells, things like Haystacks, Great Gable, etc. to play with. Scafell Pike ("we went up the highest mountain in England") is a bit further but you can do it from Borrowdale. It all rather depends on the level of ability of the group and the leader.

If you go to Center Parcs you can run round the woods and spot red squirrels before going bouldering.

Thanks for all the quick replies! Everything getting forwarded on to make a couple of decisions on.

I've actually done a drinking trip with some friends to Centre Parcs, despite being horribly over-priced we really enjoyed it. Don't think it's quite the kind of thing my mates after though!

One of the best locations for a Stag I've been too. Plenty space for setting up computers. I'd advise a sole use booking (as we did).

Good pubs in the village and you're in the Howgills. Not sure about bouldering but the Lakes is a short hop.
