Hi all,

A trip with a group of novices is in the planing stages. I've been asked to look into croatia. Does anyone have any recommendations for areas that are single pitch where the top of the crag can be easily accessed by walking up?

Thanks,

I don't think there are that many places anywhere where it is possible to walk round and set up a top rope which is what I assume you are looking for. On the continent most of the single pitch climbs finish part way up the crag. Even at Portland where the edge is flat all the lower offs are set just below and often out of reach.

Not in my experience.
Paklenica has some easier bolt routes at the start of the gorge and some classic easy (and hard of course) multi-pitch trad further up.

Although, beware the grades - they're not soft touches. 6a in Croatia seemed closer to UK 5c than the UK 5a/b you might find in Kalymnos for instance.

(not Croatia but.....)
Osp in Slovenia has loads to go at...nifty little website too:

Just inside Italian border. Lots of climbing in Trieste too, plus you have Ljubljana, which is a really cool capital city.

the baska area has quite some beginners crags, up to french 5a/b you'd probably easily fill a week. close to the sea as well.

Marjan and Omis near split are pretty good as well. Again beware the grades.

Rovinj might be pretty close to what you are looking for.

... if you add dvigrad & limski kanal close by, this may be true.
