Evening all,

We are taking a group of youngsters (15-17yr olds) up to Snowdonia in the summer on a camp in August. This summer we'd like to take the group out climbing outside on afternoon if the weather is nice, we are staying near Beddgerlet.

Does anyone know of any suitable venues in the area? I have SPA but I'm not local to the area and my research through guidebooks has being un-successful...

Ideally the venue has to be;
-Single Pitch
-Essay access/ walk in
-Essay climbing
and somewhere, where 'top ropers' won't upset 'real' climbers....

would welcome any suggestions....

Pant Ifan Upper tier at Tremadog would be a good bet, plenty of pleasant easy routes, decently quick drying and a bit of a sun trap. The walk in is about 15 minutes uphill slog though.
The Ricks and Racks behind the RAC boulders have some OK routes too but are mega boggy.
There's a crag the opposite side of the road to the Cromlech boulders which would be suitable, it's a 1 minute walk in, some easy climbing and anyone likely to whinge about people top roping on it will be on the "real" crags anyway.
The selective guides don't seem to cover this kind of stuff too well, however the CC definitives do have quite a few of these crags dotted about so it may be worth taking a look in them.

Lions Rock just outside Llanberis has easy walk in and low grades. Think it's quite popular with groups. Has small parking area.

Craig Caseg Fraith Isaf should fit the bill well as well, it's not particularly popular with a very short walk in

Tonnau has access issues at the moment.

If you're in Beddgelert, Upper Tier is the place for you. Lovely setting, easy to rig and nice rock.

Have fun

There may be an issue with Craig Y Tonnau at the moment - it was discussed at tonight's BMC North Wales meeting - the woodland has changed hands recently and the current owner / manager has stated there should be no commercial / large group usage.

This situation may not be permanent as the woodland may be changing ownership again soon.
