Hi

Got 3 days/2 nights off in mid October and looking for ideas for a circular route. Requirements are

Approx 40-50 miles
Start finish close to rail station.
Less than 2 hours from Manchester stations
Couple of suitably located pubs on way for evening pint
Hills or coast or moors OK
Wild Camping OK

Many thanks for any suggestions,

Cheers, Simon

South Lakes peninsulas; there's a station on every one and you can combine rolling hills with flat coastal plain or beach and stop for the night near Cartmel and enjoy the pubs, cafes and even the race track if there's a meeting. A stunning and overlooked area of England.

One obvious one would be to get a train to Windermere. Endless scope for a circular route into the Lake District.

Alternatively, head into north Wales to Conwy. From there you could head into the Carneddau or stay lower around the Conwy Valley. Either do a loop or finish further south at Betws, Roman Bridge, or even Blaenau. Nice mix of hills, mountain, moor, forest, and riverside available.

cLOSE TO HOME. THE Vale Royal Round in mid Cheshire, access from Northwich. I think around 30 miles. Just over the border there is the Llangollen Round, officially signposted, a link up of two great ridge walks. about same length. Field campsite at halfway point.
