I've got a pair of ex-hire TSL 225 snowshoes which have been great so far, and definitely easier than walking in new snow.

However they are pretty heavy (about 4lbs). Nae bother for routes where you leave your gear and rap back down but for up and over I'd prefer something a bit lighter.

Anybody got any good suggestions for something lighter?

In reply to Alii:

I've used Denali Ascents a lot for approaches and they're superb, light with great traction and float.

For 'snow only' approaches I would be looking at a pair of those mega short Rosi approach skis with bindings designed for mountaineering boots with front and rear welts. They are soooooo light and fit down the sides of your pack while climbing. Plus they come with full length skins, and you get to 'ski' all the way back down after topping out! Awesome!
