planetFear Coaching Summer 2004: The Peak, Arco and Pembroke
Peak District Weekend Workshops – May and June 2004
Hosted in turn by Airlie Anderson (May) and Neil Gresham (June) these coaching weekends mix technique masterclasses with one to one coaching, motivation, encouragement and plenty of opportunity to enjoy the climbing and apply all you have learnt! The group will be guided to a variety of the most appropriate locations, and the coaches will be on hand with suggestions on how to best approach technical climbing, with demonstrations on the all-important tactics!
These coaching weekends will cover the whole spectrum of climbing techniques such as crack climbing, slab climbing, aretes, and overhangs, with demonstrations on how best to approach these features on the lead.
The hugely successful Arco Sun Rock Workshop is back. Our 2003 hosts, Adrian Berry and Adrian Baxter will again be running this trip, which promises to rise your climbing to even higher standards.
Arco has a long history of being a centre for climbing excellence. For our Sun Rock Workshop, Arco is a perfect destination, with routes ranging from short pitches to thousand foot walls, and grades from 3c to 8c, to keep everyone busy. There is a handy bouldering wall close to where we will be staying - allowing us to add technique masterclasses alongside the at-the-crag demonstrations, one to one sessions, and general encouragement and self and group assessments. The comfortable local accommodation is also close to a huge outdoor swimming pool, which is the perfect way to cool off after a day at the crag.
The trad climbing workshop is a mega 10 day extravaganza with 7 days of coaching and an additional 3 days accommodation included so you can stay on for the August Bank Holiday weekend. This workshop consist of two courses running side by side, the first being a performance rock climbing course with coaching from Ben Heason and Adrian Berry and the second being an instructional based learn-to-lead week with Trevor Massiah.
Performance Coaching with Ben Heason: The coaching will be presented by demonstrations, informal one-to-one sessions, observation and analysis. Video filming will also be employed. The coaching for this trip has three main aims tactics, confidence and technique.
Learn to Lead with Terror Messiah: If you have some experience in roped climbing, whether indoors or outdoors, top-roping or leading, you can learn the art of leading traditionally protected climbs during this week - then apply all you have learned at the bank-holiday weekend. Trevor Massiah will take you through the basics of placing protection, extending runners, and building belays to ensure that you are safe to tackle the Pembrokeshire cliffs on your own - if you show that you're a fast learner, you can join in some of the more advanced workshops with Ben Heason!
