Job Description

To be responsible for the development and progressions of all Development Squad Sessions and to support the Junior Team.

Our Development Squad is split into 3 age groups of 4 – 8, 8 – 12 and 13+ comprising of talented kids that have been selected due to their promising skills and talent. These sessions are run solely by the Development Squad Manager.

Our Junior Team is a smaller group of individuals where there is more emphasis on performance coaching and competitions. The Junior Team is run jointly by the Team Manager (James Hickman) and the Development Squad Manager.

The Development Squad manager role is vital in not only unlocking the potential of the kids that have been selected but also to build on the reputation of Volume 1 via the squad and team.

This is a fantastic role and opportunity for someone that has a passion for coaching and seeing kids reach their potential. Whilst under the direct management of the Directors, this role also includes a large amount of self-management to maximise the output and effectiveness of this role.

Whilst this is a predominantly afternoon/evening based role, it is also Monday to Friday which is a rare situation for a climbing centre job.

Responsibilities and Duties

Development Squad

  • Deliver all Development squad sessions to all age groups (ages 4 – 18)
  • Plan and structure syllabus to follow to maximise the squad members progression
  • Liaise with the Junior Team Manager to ensure content is consistent across the 2 areas.
  • Attend competitions when necessary to support squad members
  • Arrange external events and skill swaps for the development squads
  • In addition to the Development Squad role, this position will also require the individual to be trained in other areas of the business to assist when needed.

Essential Skills

  • Climbing instructing/coaching experience
  • An understating in child development and teaching
  • Positive and efficient communication skills
  • Adaptable teaching/coaching style to get the best results from the individual
  • Patience and empathy

Desired

  • Previous experience managing a climbing team or similar
  • Climbing coaching qualifications

Hours: 20 – 37.5 Hours per week

The Development Squad sessions equate to 20 hours per week, there will also be the option of picking up additional fixed shifts to bring these hours up to a full time role depending on the candidate.

Below are the fixed hours (20 hours) that ideally cannot be changed:

  • Monday: 5.15pm – 8.45pm
  • Tuesday: 4pm – 8pm
  • Wednesday: 4pm – 8.30pm
  • Thursday: 4pm – 8pm
  • Friday: 4pm – 8pm

Other hours will vary.

This role will require some weekend work to attend major competitions, this will be paid as overtime and expenses included where necessary.
