The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour has hit the road once again in 2012 and is now touring the UK with a collection of the best climbing and adventure films from one of the world's most prestigious mountain film festivals.

To get a short snapshot of what you can expect to experience during a screening, check out the trailer below.

The Banff World Tour visits more than 35 countries across all seven continents (even Antarctica) and is seen by more than 200,000 each year which highlights the ever-growing popularity of mountain culture and the pulling power of this international mountain film festival.

The Banff screenings make it possible for local communities right across the globe to experience the work of the world's best adventure film makers in their home towns. Across the UK, thousands of adventure lovers in Scotland and the north of England have already made it to their local UK Banff Mountain Film Festival screening. The next stops on the UK Tour are Birmingham and Bristol this weekend before it journeys on to more locations across England with the Tour finale being shown in Cardigan on the Welsh coast on 10 March.

Some of the highlights include:

Cold – Up until now 16 expeditions have tried and failed to climb one of Pakistan's 8000 metre peaks in the heart of winter. In early 2011, the trio of Simone Moro, Cory Richards and Dennis Urubko set out to be the first. This film captures chilling first-hand footage of their attempt. Despite the brutal cold and the conditions they make the summit. Then follows the harrowing descent that amplifies their isolation and exposure – until an avalanche hits...

Reel Rock: Obe and Ashima - There's a nine year old girl from New York taking the climbing world by storm, and her name is Ashima Shiraishi. Guided by her passionate coach and former bouldering star Obe Carrion, this tiny master is crushing competitions and raising the bar for climbing's youth. The film provides a glimpse of the past for Obe and new adventures for Ashima.

All I Can: The Short Cut - A special Tour edit of the award-winning ski film that combines thought provoking issues with mind-blowing snow sports action. Deep powder and an incredible urban downhill skiing scene are just some of the highlights.

As well as being inspired by the films, there is also the chance to win a selection of nightly prizes at every screening as well as overall Tour prizes of a 7 day ski trip for two to Canada and an Orange G3 mountain bike.
