Last winter Polartec introduced their new waterproof-breathable fabric, NeoShell. Some background: NeoShell follows Polartec's successful foray into really water resistant soft shell with Powershield Pro in 2010. Sort of soft shell, sort of hard shell, NeoShell is a new shell concept. Highly breathable, windproof, waterproof and it even has stretch built in. The fabric received very positive consumer reviews, industry acclaim and awards. More about Polartec NeoShell, including reviews, on this UKC Gear page: UKC Gear/Polartec. Here follows the range of mountain clothing made from NeoShell that will be available in the UK for Autumn/Winter 2012.
Mammut Gipfelgrat Jacket
RRP £390
Designed for 'all mountain use', the main features of this jacket are a fully adjustable hood with a reinforced visor, sleeves that don't restrict forward reach, pit zips and front pockets that remain easily accessible with a harness on.
Marmot Zion Jacket
RRP £280
NeoShell plus a soft brushed tricot backer protection makes this jacket a bit warmer for colder weather. The main features include a softened, laminated hood brim, water resistant zips and screen printing on the shoulders to keep packs and skis from slipping.
Simple, uncluttered designs. The jacket has a helmet compatible and adjustable hood, two napoleon pockets with water resistant zips and two internal mesh pockets.
The only jacket featured that's NEW for Autumn/Winter 2012
Again, Polartec NeoShell with a fleece backer for extra warmth. Designed for mountaineering, alpinism and ski touring, this jacket has a fully adjustable, helmet compatible hood, zipped hand warmer pockets, two way centre front zip, a laser-cut, waterproof chest pocket and venting pit zips.
Vaude Alpamayo Jacket
RRP £240
Again, Polartec NeoShell with a fleece backer. This jacket is constructed using 'ultrasonic' seam welding techniques with exterior taping. Essentially this reduces bulk while optimising strength. The design is stripped back with well-thought out features including a technical hood, well‐placed, accessible pockets with water resistant zips and vents .
Eider Uphill Jacket and Pants
RRP £399; £349
A technical outfit designed for demanding alpinists. Made from two lightweight versions of Polartec NeoShell - a stretch woven NeoShell fabric for increased stretch, and a ripstop stretch NeoShell fabric for increased abrasion resistance.
