Sheffield-based Podsacs is still alive and kicking with exciting developments in the offing is the message from new owners Planet X, who bought the iconic backpack brand from Rab owners Equip outdoor.

O'Donovan On Board

Not only are many of the recent range of packs still available direct from the website - currently at reduced prices - but the new owners have plans both to expand the range and to revive some old favourites with the help of company founder Pete O'Donovan.

O'Donovan, who gave the company its name, is going to take on the role of Design Consultant with the brand, ensuring that Pod's production standards and build quality are maintained. The current range of Alpine packs will continue to be produced in the same factories as before, as are classic designs like the Black Ice and the Cragsac.

Classics To Return

Meanwhile there are plans afoot to revive some discontinued 'no-nonsense' classics like the Super Teardrop and the Escape Pod and, going forward, Podsacs brand manager Hugh Cottam comments:

'I feel it is really important that we maintain our climbing heritage. That's what the brand has been built upon. These packs are specialist bits of kit that are expected to perform in Winter and Alpine climbing conditions. That's why the Podsacs ethos of bombproof, no-fuss, functional design has proofed so attractive over the years amongst hardcore climbers. However, I see no reason why this design philosophy cannot be transposed onto other outdoor products.'

They are sponsoring new climbers and mountaineers such as John Crook and Dave Brown who are currently out in Patagonia. If you'd like to follow their progress then see the Podsacs Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/podsacs
