Jonathan Griffith

Based in Chamonix, France, Jonathan has climbed the world over and established himself as one of the world's leading mountain sports photographers.

A highly accomplished Alpinist himself, with hard ascents all over the world, Jonathan continues to push himself to shoot what has never been shot before. This approach has taken his climbing to a level that sees him regularly tie in with climbers such as Ueli Steck and embarking on cutting edge ascents to visually document expeditions in the Alps, Patagonia, Alaska and the Himalayas. It's a method that puts authentic climbing at its heart: an increasingly rare but refreshing approach to adventure photography in a climate where style is valued more than substance. Jon will be showing never-seen-before imagery and video, which will take you through the highs and lows of climbing some of Europe's hardest routes, racing up Alaskan test pieces, and finding his limit whilst new routing on Himalayan giants.

Jon will be bringing along copies of his book to sell at the Festival, if you would like to pre-order one you can do so here.

Hazel Findlay

First British woman to climb an F8c sport route!

It's no secret that British women are climbing harder than ever before. But until recently, only four British women had climbed F8b+ and everyone was wondering who'd be the first to crack F8c. The wait is over, with Hazel Findlay's recent ascent of Fish Eye at Oliana, Spain.

Introduced to climbing at the age of seven, Hazel took right to indoor competitions – claiming the title of British junior champion six times. At 16, she shifted her focus to the outdoors, climbing traditional routes. Since then she's been in search of solid climbing across the globe, exploring the rock formations of South East Asia, India, Australia, New Zealand, Morocco, North America and Europe, and becoming one of the UK's foremost climbers along the way.

Hazel says, "For me climbing is a sport, a passion, a pastime, a lifestyle, and an excuse to explore places, people and myself." And for Kendal she adds, "Having recently finished a degree in Philosophy there might be some philosophising amongst the climbing chit chat, but I'll try not to forget that all I do is scramble around on rocks!"

Not to be missed!

Sometimes all it takes is a little bit of luck and being in the right place at the right time....

Britain's leading sport climber for over 15 years, Steve has continually and single handedly pushed the standards and taken UK sport to new levels. His new autobiography 'Beyond Limits' will be launched at this years Kendal Mountain Film Festival and documents his life through climbing.

In this audio visual presentation he picks through the highs and lows on a journey to come full circle back to a place where climbing happy takes priority over climbing hard. From multi-day sieges on the UK's hardest sport routes to an onsight of the classic Strawberries steve discusses: 'was it all hard work, or did I just get lucky?'

Martin Boysen

Martin Boysen as a young man Martin's passion for crags and mountains springs from his deep love of nature and a strong sense of adventure.

From his early days on rock as a Kent schoolboy after the war, he was soon among the most gifted climbers of his generation, famed for his silky technique.

Boysen made a huge contribution to British rock climbing, especially in North Wales; he discovered Gogarth in the 1960s and climbed some of the best new routes of his era: Nexus on Dinas Mot, The Skull on Cyrn Las and the magisterial Capital Punishment on Ogwen's Suicide Wall. For more than two decades, Boysen was also one of Britain's leading mountaineers. A crucial member of Sir Chris Bonington's team that climbed the South Face of Annapurna in 1970, Boysen was also part of Bonington's second summit team on the South West face of Everest. In 1976 he made the first ascent of Trango Tower with Joe Brown. Along the way, Boysen climbed with some of the most important figures in the history of the sport, not just stars like Bonington and Brown, but those who make climbing so rich and intriguing, like Nea Morin and the brilliant but doomed Gary Hemming. He joined Hamish MacInnes hunting gold in Ecuador, doubled for Clint Eastwood on the North Face of the Eiger and worked on director Fred Zinnemann's last movie. Wry, laconic and self-deprecating, Martin Boysen's biography Hanging On is an insider's account of British climbing's golden age.

Christophe Profit

Christophe Profit Christophe Profit ripped up the mountaineering rule book in the 1980s with a string of ultra-fast ascents and 'enchainments'.

His feats included soloing the Petit Dru in 3 hours and 10 minutes, first one-day solo winter ascent of the Eiger north face, soloing the Peuterey 'integrale' in one day, and linking the Grandes Jorasses, Eiger and Matterhorn north faces inside 42 hours. Profit's climbs were supersonic. This was the birth of speed ascents; we could go on and mention the elegant solo of the Direct American on the SW Face of the Petit Dru, climbed in just 3 hours and 10 minutes in 1982. Or recount the integral solo ascent of the Peuterey crest. And talk about his Himalayan work of art in 1991 when, together with Pierre Béghin, he traced a new line along the NW crest of K2. Better maybe to come along and hear him speak…
