Hi, just a quick question, can you cycle to the wall from the main student accommodation area or do you need a car?

New routes are being added regularly, cleaning takes place on a weekly basis, and a new mat has been installed replacing the old worn one. Im also hoping to recieve a new batch of holds in the next few weeks.

I don't care what anybody says about this wall because it just rocks. The problems have a good range and are clearly marked. If there's just 3/4 of you visit this wall you will be able to work on a wide range of muscles and skills.

a massive cheer must go to LUMC who have done a session of cleaning in the wall. Well done.

the wall did fall into a period of in activity. Ben had to move away to fill a new job and therefore it was situation vacant for a while. Lancaster University Montaineering Club tried to set some new routes in the mean time but again little was done. Dave Westlake is now employed as wall manager and things have started to improve already. Cleaning is stil the responsibility of LUMC in return for free climbing on tuesdays, BUT nothing gets cleaned and frankly they dont deserve their free sessions. in the meantime dave has set some new problems and a budget is being agreed to get some nice big slopers. there is excess chalk dust but this could improve with the use of a hoover by LUMC, pressure by me may get this done this week! we are improving the route setting, even short Ken has been asked to set some problems!

The wall has unfortunately gone down hill recently. I go every day and nothing has changed for ages, after doing everything at least once it gets boring. What's going on with this cleaning, if that gets cleaned once a week I’m a monkeys uncle! It looked like it had been wiped down at Easter but it hasn’t been touched since. And what’s with the disappearing holds? You have a nice route planned, you look forward to climbing it all day and then you get there to find that crucial hand whole has just vanished! And sometimes it’s the entire route, I wouldn’t mind but nothing new is ever put back. Board 18 is getting sparser and sparser. Now you can traverse or climb it on features alone but surely that takes the fun out of planning your own routes. And the tech grades assigned to the climbs especially at the lower end of the scale vary crazily from route to route. Some routes are a nice warm up at 5C then you go strain away to find you’ve just burnt out on a 4C, what’s that about?

I totally dissagree with Ben Smith. I climb regulary in the wall as i am a university member and i find that since easter the problems have not changed once. This was 9 weeks ago. Come on mate, if uve just got £500 of new holds then use them. It is starting to geta bit boring going up and down the same routes all the time.

The wall has come a long way in the last couple of years. It gets busy but there's not a lot you can do about it. It's not expensive, there are loads of problems and it's got some of the best features seen indoors anywhere!

george logan, is this because you get burned off by all of the problems??? i climb at the wall regularily and i think that the routes get changed enough. and ive seen the wall being cleaned atleast once a week. climb better and you might get on better. regards christopher.

Just thought I would give both sides of the story. As I am currently in charge of the wall I feel that these comments are a bit unfair. The routes are changed at least three times a week at the moment and not only by myself but at least two others. I admit some of them get a bit samey but how many other walls aren't? I am constantly trying to recruit new route setters to alleviate this problem. As for the 'sweaty pit' comments - I agree, but it is a small squash court and there is nothing I can do about it. We have just bought £500 worth of new holds and I need route setters to put them up. There is a website and email address that people can send comments to, but I rarely receive any this way.

Don't agree with previous comments. To be fair routes are changed but could have more variety. It is a squash court so can get a bit sweaty if busy.

This wall is a sweaty grease pitt and they never change the problems, and even when they do all the moves are poor or the same get a new route setter and clean more regular...Don`t go here!!
