The Cragg, Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre this page viewed 15,957 times |
New routes are set every few weeks, both on the wall and the bouldering cave.
Bouldering and dyno competitions are held every few months.
Grading quite variable. Friendly atmosphere.
This is the best bouldering venue in Norfolk/Suffolk.
StephenFulton Since the introduction of the Bouldering room the Cragg has increased hugely. Whereas previously I have been frustrated with (what I consider to be) a generally poor wall with inaccurate grading and a poor selection of different route styles (certainly compared to waht Im used to up North). However, the new Bouldering room is excellent with routes regularly changed. It alone makes visiting the Cragg worthwhile! Anybody living in the local area should definatly pay a visit, especially those bored with UEA, Wymondhom or the such. williap The Bouldering Wall is now nearly complete, with the lead wall and traverse wall being installed in Feb. The walls are being installed by the Beacon Climbing Centre from North Wales. All work is scheduled to finish on the 15th Feb 09. NicholasHart Bouldering Room in Squash court 4 has now received backing and should be under constructions at time of writing (Later Jan 09). Plans also include new sports climbing top/lead ropes in place of old bouldering walls and a traversing wall for warming up. Bouldering room to be installed by Enterprise I think. EscapeArtist Much improved in recent months - all holds removed and cleaned, plus more regular route setting keeps things interesting. Most routes top-roped so limited lead climbing but there are some good boulder problems. Certainly manages to keep me entertained over the winter months. chris_j_s The cragg is a great climbing wall, I been going to the kids climbing club for the past 6 months and have been learning loads of things leadclimbing placement of quick draws ect also there are now ropes on nearly all off the climbing walls now (well when ever I've been there, there has) jack - 31/Dec/07 Just moved down from the north so this place is a godsend. Good range of problems, plenty for all standards and a friendly bunch. No rip off 1.5 hour time limit at busy times and making you pay twice as at the Norwich wall. Also much better and larger bouldering area. Apparently plans to expand the facilities to include a dedicated boulder area in former squash court, signatures required to achieve funding so give it some support and it will get even better! Only quibble, needs some mats desperately! Shreds I've started using this wall over the last couple of months. The climbing is ok, but the routes are hard to identify - numbers are worn off or covered by holds on the bouldering wall. Many of the holds could use a damn good clean, too - some are very greasy. The only other thing I would add - some of the grades on the bouldering wall are way under. blacktom I am a regular user of the wall. Over the last 2 months their have been may psitive changes. 1.Regular changing of routes is now happening with grades ranging from sport 4 - 7b. 2.There are now some permanent top ropes in-place. 3.Bouldering is now of a good standard due to correct placement of holds. 4.There are now many course for beginers and advanced climbers. 5.There is now a good structure in place to encourage junior climbers with regular kids clubs. 6. Bouldering/lead comps. due this winter. Biffa - 14/Jul/02 |
