See main page for route description..... Climb the classic summer scramble in winter conditions. The route comes into condition with a freeze and a fall of snow as nearly all placements are hooks on rock. The route is far superior to many much talked about Scottish grade II buttresses. The reality is it is worth 2 stars, but I have left it as 1 star as per the current guidebook.

Don't think it will get old. Such a good scramble. More like summer conditions with lots of powder.

Poor conditions, banked out with really loose unconsolidated powder with a thin crisp topping. Bailed after 80M. This crag gets little Sun, so has not been through the freeze thaw, that say the climbs in Nethermost Cove got. However, will be back, as what we did get done had an awuful lot of interest!

Bare of neve, alpine feel of rock with snow cover. Claiming winter ascent as we needed axes and crampons at the top and for the rest of the day. Fun.

Pitched corner and pinnacles. Belayed 2nd down last pinnacle then abseiled off. Good neve cover on whole route.

Nice and cold with excellent neve. Crux bare and most footprints led left....went direct and found it very tricky easily tech 4. The route as a whole? II/III, 4 if you take each steep section direct.

Quality day out, apart from dropping my axe bum sliding on descent - had to walk a mile or so back up the hill to find it :(

A little lean on the corner pitch but that was the only bit worth roping up for. Snow more consolidated and stable on the last snow slope. Went direct over the pinnacles which was surprisingly technical but all in all a class day out!

Andy Chadwick 13/Jan AltLd

Powder low down, powder + neve higher up. Climbed the chimney right at the top which is similar difficulty to the crux corner.

Cold and dry. No need for Axe's / crampons until very top slope.

Maybe I'd give this scottish III, or II 4, due to the crux.

A bit mental today. Rob and I were determined to do a route today. It drizzled from leaving the car to our return. I was both wet and cold as we started the route. Ice was in meltdown all the way to the summit. High winds and poor condition made this route on the day quite serious and a little scary. Not in condition. Still a great day out. A BAD DAYS CLIMBING IS BETTER THAN A GOOD DAY AT WORK EH !

Took a look at the ridge early morning it looked to be in good nick , I always find Pinnacle ridge far from daunting and sometimes wonder about its grade 3 rating , I would rather tackle the ridge in conditions like today's, it was easier than when its wet. Took another look at it mid afternoon still in good condition very little snow on the pinnacles, just a dusting , wont be back now till summer .

on the day we did it, it was a 3 star route, similar to the more famous and populated Dorsal Arete, but PR has more climbing and better views
