Pinnacle Ridge (winter)* II

Adjacent Climbs
<< unnamed gully AKA "Dog Gully".

East Chockstone Gully ( winter ) >>
[Pinnacle ridge crux from above, 3 kb] See main page for route description..... Climb the classic summer scramble in winter conditions. The route comes into condition with a freeze and a fall of snow as nearly all placements are hooks on rock. The route is far superior to many much talked about Scottish grade II buttresses.

robbiek - 2nd - 08/Dec/12 with Dan Staff

Solo and then roped up for crux and main ridge. Crux felt more like III. Down climbed after ridge ..nice ledges and good axe placements in the crack once it had been cleaned but placing gear for "seconds" protection is def a good idea

lots of unconsolidated snow, no real ice although some frozen turf at top, did with boots and walking axe but no crampons. got rope out for final slab but found it wasnt really required. good fun and a good way of getting back into gear for the winter season

covered in powder, felt a bit stiff in places...
twoplates - AltLd - 07/Jan/10 with frith wood

Good route, felt a touch go-ey for II, couldn't find the descent off the pinnacle so abbed. Some crazy avalanche hazard on the way in

Very pleasant
mark20 - AltLd O/S - 24/Jan/09

Took a look at the ridge early morning it looked to be in good nick , I always find Pinnacle ridge far from daunting and sometimes wonder about its grade 3 rating , I would rather tackle the ridge in conditions like today's, it was easier than when its wet. Took another look at it mid afternoon still in good condition very little snow on the pinnacles, just a dusting , wont be back now till summer .
BigHell - Solo - 24/Jan/09

on the day we did it, it was a 3 star route, similar to the more famous and populated Dorsal Arete, but PR has more climbing and better views
