Moved together all the way. Squeeky snow, sugary snow, windslab: it was all there. A great way to get onto Swirral and Striding Edges. Beautiful weather and good to be out with boarders and skiiers too.

Great route. Snow starts almost at the base of the mountain, and continues all of the way to the top, something like 300m later!!! Route visible on the approach as soon as you leave the mine. Easy angled gully, wide enough to accommodate several parties. Lots of variation, especially on the right. Soloed up most of the way, but started to pitch as snow was softening up and the exposure growing. Took second side gully on the right, then kept left as gully divided again, then zig zagged right of centre to top out on the summit itself. Makes a great approach to Swirral if you have the time.

Beautiful weather and a nice climb on snow in perfect condition. However the day was marred by seeing someone fall almost the entire length of the gully. He escaped with a compound fracture to his leg.

An interesting approach to red tarn that makes a good mountaineering style day out. Good neve in the whole gully with an awkward step about half way up.
