some ok ish neve considering the weather it was ok felt a bit unstable and wet/ soft in places though so quite a tentative and exiting ascent :/ but we made it .... but nice to get one last route done in the lakes this season
A wild day with 70mph winds on the summit, the neve was just about holding on after the torrential rain of the previous day and will probably not survive much more if it doesn't freeze hard for a few days. Water was running under the snow at many points !!
Too warm so it was very soft conditions. Axes were biting well enough though.
There was great neve towards the top of the climb. Went up with the one axe.
Dave, Dave and Ian solo ascent using good old fashioned single axe technique. Foggy but great ice conditions.
|Jonny Nick||14/Mar||Solo O/S|
felt pretty steep for grade 1, especially the last few metres. Great fun!
|C Witter||27/Feb||Solo O/S||
My first ice climb. Just terrifying enough. Came back down via Striding Edge. Wanted to go up Gully 1, but Pete heard an awful crack in the ice as he went up it, so the rest of us backed off.
Good hard neve. Soloed with single axe
Kai Green, Julian Bridle, Ian Shore
An unexpectedly good day. Up Gully 2, over to DollyWaggon Pike and down. Lovely snow, great views and blue sky!
Ian Shore, Kai Green, Babika

First ever Winter climb... loved every minute and cant wait to do another!
Sugary snow on the approach once in the gully ice with 3 inch fresh snow on top, felt a lot harder than I to me, blue skies, deep snow fantastic
Lovely condition with excellent placements all the way

Good climbing conditions. Great day out
bomber neve. Perfect blue skies
Chris Dean Good conditions hard work on calves due to solid neve under sprinkling of fresh snow. No problems with cornices as minimal. Good day out (o:

Amy's first winter route, ice jedi style. I mono axed it. Good conditions.
Robbie's first winter route (age 13). Loved it.
hard snow with small ice bulge half way up - good conditions, awesome weather epic day as descended via striding edge
Very Soft up most of the climb, some harder sections. Needs a few more cold days to be more enjoyable.

Beautiful winter conditions, with a stable snowpack, route 75% complete snow cover,short frozen turf section in centre for about 15mt. No cornices to summit slope due to high winds on the 7th, easy top out.
Deep unconsolidated powder although minimal avalanche risk
fresh sprong snow on the lower section, ice bulge in the middle then hard neve before more fresh snow- wonderful conditions, blue sky and little wind
|Rob Exile Ward||22/Jan/11||Solo||
I think it was this! Steady snow plod, then down Striding Edge and up Nethermost Gully. Unexpectedly good day.
|David Cowley||05/Jan/11||AltLd O/S||

Intended to do a harder route, but the conditions (especially the wind) were so harsh that we decided to solo number 2 gully. I've never known winds so strong on the summit, you could barely stand and could definitely not walk in a straight line. Did the last part of the route with eyes shut because of the spindrift, got some goggles now :-)

Gully full of snow, higher up fair patches of frozen turf and ice. Top third much harder than I.

Straightforward snow slope with some good neve.
climbed moving together, condition great, windy on top around -5 degrees

In descent. Watching that collie swimming up the cornice to top out was surreal!
Carmen and Will
|Will Smith||12/Jan/08||Solo rpt||
Descended to get to base of V corner. Busiest I've ever seen it, but also the best conditions. Solid neve from top to bottom. Small cornice to down climb, but a solo ascent by a dog showed it couldn't be too tricky!
Second gully for three of us, 1st for one of us. Great day, very busy. Can't wait to get back in the snow. Our thoughts go to the guys family and friends
Andrew Morton, Simon Woolley, Matt Watkins
Climbed in good snow conditions up to the summit shelter and saw Alan Hinkes guiding clients on the way. Came down Swirral Edge and then attempted Gully 1 but too busy so went back to Gully 2 and did it again with no one else on it. Descended by Striding Edge. Saw mountain rescue incident involving helicopter pick up close to Red Tarn. Later found out that poor chap died in a fall.

turfy ledges on left of gully
Good fun. The only thing in condition. Had a good time on the icy slab on the left.
