crux pitch was great fun. Moved out right onto the buttress for a more interesting finish.

On second pitch I headed directly up to 2nd chockstone, climbed the ice beneath it, then left with a choice of a couple of steep turfy (harder than grade 3) moves or slightly slabbier to the left. either way there was no gear other than my single ice screw 3 mtrs below so downclimbed the ice and bailed. On reading the guidebook more carefully! the description of the Direct start fits better for this (grade V). although i never did find the chimney 20mtrs below the ice.

A good route. We headed out right up a turfy ramp after the crux pitch for a bit more interest.

Excellent little route with a fine crux pitch, made all the better because we'd come expecting little after the previous day's rain/snow.. First pitch easy with a nicely exposed finish (C led). Crux pitch excellent steep icefall, followed by steep unprotected (and only partly frozen) turf (C led the ice, I took over for the turf). Well worth III I thought. Guidebook pitch lengths were wrong, it gives 50/50/60m, we did it in 5 pitches about 50/50/20/50/60m.

Soft snow below gully. Traversed in via Blueberry gully. Crux pitch was complete, with ice and solid turf (but where's the gear?). Snow above appeared firm, but stayed on the edge of the gully just in case. Great route with great atmosphere.
