Crag features

Ingrina is an amazing place. With a massive batch of S0's, a crag that rarely touches 12m, and angles that are often a little more steady than the canted, gutsy angles of Ponta Garcia, the venue's position in the DWS history books is fully guaranteed. Add to this easy access almost everywhere, brilliant gear-up ledges and excellent viewing and beta points, and you have a world-class arrangement. The main Ingrina beach is simply beautiful, with a palm-tree surrounded bar and good parking.

Ingrina's tides are tiny, so focus instead on the sea state, which is infinitely variable. Visit on warm, crisp days, when the main cave will be in best condition.

Approach notes

From the Fortaleza roundabout in Sagres, drive out of town, past Vila do Bispo, to the first set of traffic lights (about 11km). Turn right, and take the first tarmac right turn, marked 'Ingrina Beach'. Drive this road for about 6km, passing the turn signed 'Camping Ingrina' on the right, to arrive at the beach, where a right turn finds the small car park on the western edge of the beach. Look for the dirt track up the hill to the right, and follow it up to the rise. If you have low clearance on your car, park in the first car parking area - if clearance is no problem, continue to the second.

From the red-soiled, second car park space, walk along the main trail heading southwest, skirting a valley to the left, and heading for the high point of the promontory ahead. Once beyond the high point of the headland, you'll find some very big holes in the ground, and you'll also have your first view of Ingrina's Main Cave, seen down and to the right. Walk down the series of easy rocky shelves to reach an excellent gearing-up spot. This spot is actually between the Main Cave and the Smiley Face.
Approach time: 5 mins

I've uploaded a pic to show the layout of the crag since the loss of the Smiley Face area. I found the rock in Main Cave area a bit worrying for climbing on my own, and I wouldn't be surprised if that fell down too. The other areas are ace.

The block of the smiley face is no more, it slid into the sea in the winter of 2007 (can be seen in the water under where it should be...
